Rendezvous

The aim of Rendezvous is to bring the elderly from our community to meet and socialise with each other in a warm & friendly atmosphere. We listen to their needs and try to help them out.

Rendevous is at St James on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. For more information, contact Mick and Joan Wise via the Church office.

Sandwich Bar

Our aim is to provide an informal church-based meeting place for all members of the local community. The sandwich bar is run by caring and dedicated volunteers, which enables us to keep costs to a minimum. We like to provide good quality freshly prepared food with a friendly service. Our range includes sandwiches, salads and a selection of home made cakes, as well as seasonal specialities. We are open during term time between 12pm and 2pm and offer everyone a warm welcome.

Pre-school

St James Pre-school is as old as the church. It was started by a group of Mums from the church who wanted somewhere for their children to play and to learn the skills they need for school. They also wanted to help build the sense of community in the new SouthLake estate. Although the estate is no longer new, the need for somewhere for children to take their first steps away from home remains.

The Pre-school has qualified staff who help children to grow in confidence and social skills, as well as other abilities which will help them as they start nursery. They are also very caring and see childrens' safety and happiness as a priority. Each session has a maximum of 16 children, and so, unlike other local settings, does not overwhelm young children.

The Pre-school is managed by a committee, currently chaired by the vicar of St James. 4 other church members also serve on the committee, alongside 4 people who represent the Pre-school community, as parents, parents for former members of the Pre-school or former staff.
