Rules queries can be posted to the newsgroup rec.sport.billiard. The GameThe game of snooker is played on an English Billiard Table (12ft x 6ft) and may be played by two people, or two teams.Points are awarded for scoring strokes and forfeits from an opponents fouls. The winner is the player who makes the highest score. Each player uses the same white cue-ball and there are 21 object balls - fifteen reds each valued at 1 point, and six colours, namely yellow (2 points), green (3), brown (4), blue (5), pink (6), and black (7).At the commencement of play, the object balls are positioned as follows: Black on the spotPink on the pyramid spotBlue on the centre spotBrown on the middle of the baulk lineGreen on the left-hand corner of the 'D'Yellow on the right-hand corner of the 'D'The reds form a triangle, with the ball at the apex standing as near to the pink as possible without touching it, and with the base of the triangle of reds being parallel to the top cushion.Scoring strokes are made by potting reds and colours alternately until all reds are off the table and then the colours in the ascending order of their value (i.e. yellow to black).PlayThe first player plays from the 'D' and the frame starts with the first stroke. The cue-ball must first hit a ball 'on' and must not enter a pocket.A ball not 'on' must not be potted. For the first stroke of each turn, until all the reds are off the table, red is the ball 'on'.If a red is potted, the next ball 'on' is a colour. The colour, if potted, is scored (i.e. 2 to 7 points) and respotted.Until all the reds are off the table, the break is continued by potting reds and colours alternately. When one player fails to make a pot, the opposing player plays from the where the cue-ball comes to rest. The colours then become 'on' in the ascending order of their value (i.e. yellow to black) and then remain off the table. In the event of a tied game, the black is respotted, and the cue ball is played from the 'D'. Lots are drawn to decide who plays first. The player that scores the next points (from potting the black or the opponent making a foul) wins the game. Therefore a game of snooker cannot be drawn. FoulsThe following shots are fouls: Missing the ball(s) that are 'on'Potting a ball not 'on'Potting the cue-ballJumping the cue-ball over an object ballIf a foul is committed, all points scored before the foul shot are allowed. The next stroke is made from where the cue-ball comes to rest.Fouls incur a penalty of four points, or the value of the ball 'on', or the value of the ball 'on' - whichever is the highest. Points are not deducted from the player's score, but added to the opponents score.Should more than one foul be committed in the same stroke, the highest value penalty shall be incurred.AHSketchôô s²ÓÊ (s²[ÿÀ[ÿÀ[ÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÿÀZÿÿÿÀZÿÿÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀ=ÿøÀÿÿÿ?<üÿÿÀÿÀ=ÿøÿÀÿÿ?<üÿÿÀÿÀ=ÿøÿðÿÿ?<üÿÿÀÿÀ=ÿò<ð?À?<üüðÏ?üÿÿÀÿÀ=ÿò?<ü?<üððÏ?üÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿüÿ<ûðÀÃÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿüÿÃ?<ûüÃÃÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿüÃÿ<ûüÃÃ0 ÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿôÃÿÃÿ?<<üÃ0ÀÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿüÃÿ?<ûðÀ0ÀÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿôÃÿ?<üð?üðÿÿÀÿÀ>ÿôÃÿ?À?<üü?üðÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀZÿÿÀÿÀDÿÿðÿÿÀÿÀDÿÿÿÿÀÿÀÿÿû3ÿþÀÿÿÀÿÀÿÿê3ÿýüÿÿÀÿÀÿÿê3ÿýÀÀÿÿÀÿÀÿÿª3ÿýÀ?ÿÿÀÿÀÿþªþ2ÿüÀÿüÿÿÀÿÀÿþªú2ÿüÀÿ?ÀÿÿÀÿÀÿþªª2ÿüÀÿÿÿÿÀÿÀÿýªªþ1ÿûÀÿÿüÿÿÀÿÀÿýª®ú1ÿûÀÿÿ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿýªªê1ÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÀÿª1ÿÿÀÿÿÿÿÀÿÀÿªÿþ0ÿÿÀÿþüÿÿÀÿÀÿÿ¿ªÿúÿüÿÃÿÿÀÿþüÿÿÀÿÀÿªÿêÿüüÃÿÿÀÿþ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿüÀÿðÿýÿ¿ªùÿðÿÿ ÿüÃ?ðÃÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÀÿüÿðÿýÿÿªùüðÿÿ ÿ÷ÃÿðÃÃ?üüÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÀÿüðüðÿýÿ¿ªüºÈÿðÿÿ ÿ÷Ã?ðÃÃ?üðÿÿÀÿÿÿÿÀÿÀÿõð?üðð?À?ðªöê€ÿðð0À?ðÿ÷üÃÃ?<ðÀÿÿÀÿÿÿÿÀÿÀÿõðüðÀ¼ª÷ þððüÿ÷ðÃÃ?<üÃÿÿÀÿþüÿÿÀÿÀÿõÿððÃÿª÷êüðÀ ÿ÷ÃÿÀÃÃ?<ÀÿÿÀÿþüÿÿÀÿÀÿõüð?ÀÃÿÀÿªøÿððÀ ÿþÃÿÃý?<üÿÿÀÿþüÿÿÀÿÀÿõð?ððÀÃÿÀÿª÷êÀ«ÿððÀ ÿ÷ÃÿÀÃÃ<ðÃÿÿÀÿþ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿõðÿððÀÃÃÿ ÿªø ®þðð ÿ÷ðÃüðÿÿÀÿþ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿþð?ðþÃÿüªúê ºêððÿüÿ÷üÃ0üüÿýüÿÿÀÿþ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿõüðÀ?ðª÷ ªªðð?ð ÿýðÿÿÀÿþ?ðÿÿÀÿÀÿõÿð?Àÿðª÷ ªªòðÿð ÿýÿÀÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÿÀÿÀÿªüꪮú%ÿòÿÃ?ÀÿüÃ0ÀÀÿÿÀÿÀÿªþþêÿþ?üÿòÿÀÿüÃÀÿÿÀÿÀÿªü®ªêªÿþðÿòðü<ððÀÀÿÿÀÿÀÿÿÿªüêïüÿþüÿ÷ÀÿÃ?<ðþÀÿÿÀÿÀÿþüÿªýþðÿÿ?ÿòÿÿÃ?
