L2000-3000L500,BRITISH AIRWAYS published this tipping guide in their "High Life" magazine for March 1996.It is transcribed by a regular traveller who would mention the following points from his own experience:USA: Tipping is very much part of the system and is the highest % in the world. If you do not tip or tip insufficiently your omission will usually be pointed out to you. Their argument is that bar & restaurant staff are not paid or paid very low salaries and depend upon tips for their income. In some international hotels it is becoming common to charge 15% S/C and also place a line for "Gratuities" on the credit card slip. The situation seems to be that the company keeps most of the 15% S/C and gives only 20% of it (ie3%) to the staff. What happens to ad+ditional gratuities signed for is unknown.0P:`.Ar 3pROM::GENERAL.WDR%Pp@Country: Restaurants:Bars:Taxis:Maid Per week:Cinema/theatre: Hairdresser:Porter per bag:Cloaks/lavatory:
