He holds a meeting in the church hall to enrol volunteers. 1 2 Museum Piece (7-Aug-68) BBCV 4892 The Walmington-On-Sea LDV unit has no proper weapons, so Mainwaring decides to requisition the contents of the Peabody Museum of Historic Army Weapons. 1 3 Command Decision (14-Aug-68) BBCV 4892 Mainwaring gets a visit from an old soldier named Colonel Square, who offers to donate weapons to the Walmington-On-Sea LDV unit, provided he's allowed to take command. 1 4 The Enemy Within The Gates (21-Aug-68) BBCV 4992 Captain Mainwaring is giving a lecture on recognising enemy agents when he's interrupted by a monocled officer with a suspicious foreign accent. 1 5 The Showing Up Of Corporal Jones (28-Aug-68) BBCV 4992 The platoon is being inspected by Major Regan from area HQ. He decides that Lance-Corporal Jones isn't fit for duty and will have to leave the LDV unless he can get around an assault course in 15 minutes. 1 6 Shooting Pains (4-Sep-68) BBCV 4992 A shooting contest between the Walmington-On-Sea and the Eastgate platoons will decide who provides the guard of honour when the Prime Minister visits the area. 2 1 Operation Kilt (1-Mar-69) The platoon are involved in an exercise in which six members of the Highland Regiment attack the platoon's headquarters. The members of the Walmington-On-Sea platoon come up with a scheme to ensure that they can capture their attackers 2 2 The Battle Of Godfrey's Cottage (8-Mar-69) When the church bells start tolling, the members of the platoon think it's a German invasion. 2 3 The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker (15-Mar-69) When Walker is called up, Mainwaring tries to persuade the War Office that he's too valuable for the Walmington-On-Sea platoon to lose. In spite of Mainwaring's efforts, Walker has to join the Army. 2 4 Sergeant Wilson's Little Secret (22-Mar-69) BBCV 6162 Wilson overhears Mrs Pike telling Frank that she's going to have a child. He mistakenly assumes that she's pregnant - in reality, she's going to be looking after an evacuee. When Wilson confides in Mainwaring, the Captain advises marriage. 2 5 A Stripe For Frazer (29-Mar-69) Mainwaring promotes Frazer to Lance-Corporal, causing rivalry between Frazer and Jones. 2 6 Under Fire (5-Apr-69) The platoon are on fire watch when they spot a man using a flashlight. 3 1 The Armoured Might Of Lance Corporal Jones (11-Sep-69) BBCV 4490 GHQ orders the platoon to work more closely with the local ARP. 3 2 Battle School (18-Sep-69) BBCV 4660 The members of the platoon have to attend a weekend camp. After a train journey, they find they have a four-hour march from the station to the camp. They arrive late and miss supper. 3 3 The Lion Has 'Phones (25-Sep-69) BBCV 5857 A German bomber crashes into the reservoir while Wilson and Frazer are on patrol. Jones is sent to phone GHQ, but he dials the wrong number and gets the Plaza Cinema by mistake. 3 4 The Bullet Is Not For Firing (2-Oct-69) BBCV 4489 The platoon use their entire supply of ammunition in a night exercise. Captain Mainwaring insists on holding a Court of Inquiry, which becomes a shambles. 3 5 Something Nasty In The Vault (9-Oct-69) BBCV 5857 A bomb lands on the bank during an air raid, but fails to explode. While they are inspecting the damage, Mainwaring and Wilson fall through a hole into the vault and end up cluctching the bomb. 3 6 Room At The Bottom (16-Oct-69) BBCV 5967 When staff at GHQ discover that Mainwaring has never had a commission, he's demoted to Private and Wilson is put in charge of the platoon. 3 7 Big Guns (23-Oct-69) BBCV 4489 A naval gun is delivered to the platoon. Captain Mainwaring discovers that the town's bandstand blocks the proposed line of fire of the new gun. 3 8 The Day The Balloon Went Up (30-Oct-69) BBCV 4088 The platoon capture a stray barrage balloon. They decide to tow it out into the woods so that they can tie it to a tree. The balloon ecsapes and takes off with Captain Mainwaring still holding on to the cable. 3 9 War Dance (6-Nov-69) BBCV 5967 Private Pike brings an ATS girl to the Home Guard dance, intending to announce his intention of marrying her. 3 10 Menace From the Deep (13-Nov-69) BBCV 4489 The platoon are guarding a machine gun post at the end of the local pier. Pike makes a mess of securing the rowing boat and it drifts away, leaving them stranded. Then they spot a sea mine drifting towards the pier. 3 11 Branded (20-Nov-69) BBCV 4660 Godfrey admits to being a conscientious objector during the First World War and is sent home in disgrace. The rest of the platoon send him to Coventry. Later, Captain Mainwaring collapses during an exercise in a smoke-filled room and is rescued by Godfrey 3 12 Man Hunt (27-Nov-69) BBCV 4661 Walker gets hold of a tracking dog for the platoon. When a discarded parachute is found, Mainwaring decides to use the dog to track down the parachutist. 3 13 No Spring For Frazer (4-Dec-69) BBCV 4763 A butterfly spring goes missing from the Lewis Gun which Frazer was supposed to be looking after. Frazer says that the spring must have fallen into the coffin of Mr Blewitt's brother. 3 14 Sons of the Sea (11-Dec-69) BBCV 4088 Mainwaring requisitions a boat called "The Naughty Jane", planning to use it for coastal patrols. Members of the platoon set sail and become lost in the fog. 4 1 The Big Parade (25-Sep-70) BBCV 6266 The platoon has to lead a big parade to mark the start of Spitfire Week. Captain Mainwaring decides that they need a mascot. Private Sponge offers to let them have a ram from his farm, provided they can catch one. 4 2 Don't Forget The Diver (2-Oct-70) BBCV 4088 The platoon are taking part in a big Home Guard exercise. They have to plant a bomb in a windmill occupied by the Eastgate platoon. Mainwaring and his men use various disguises to reach the windmill undetected. 4 3 Boots, Boots, Boots (9-Oct-70) BBCV 4089 Captain Mainwaring becomes obsessed with the idea of healthy feet, so he organises a barefoot football game and a 20-mile route march. The members of the platoon conspire to sabotage Mainwaring's plans. 4 4 Sergeant - Save My Boy! (16-Oct-70) BBCV 4661 During manoeuvres on the beach, Private Pike gets trapped on barbed wire in the middle of a minefield. The tide is coming in and Pike can't swim, so the members of the platoon must find a way to rescue him before it's too late. 4 5 Don't Fence Me In (23-Oct-70) BBCV 4661 The platoon have to guard a camp full of Italian POWs. When Walker is caught smuggling a group of prisoners out of the camp, Mainwaring suspects him of being a fifth columnist. 4 6 Absent Friends (30-Oct-70) BBCV 4763 Captain Mainwaring has to attend a meeting. In his absence, Wilson gives the men permission to play in a darts match against the ARP wardens in a local public house. 4 7 Put That Light Out (6-Nov-70) BBCV 4490 Members of the platoon are manning an observation post in the local lighthouse, with Jones in charge. They accidentally switch on the light and can't find a way to switch it off again. 4 8 The Two And A Half Feathers (13-Nov-70) BBCV 4320 An old soldier named George Clarke, who served in the Sudan with Jones, joins the platoon. He tells everyone that Jones left him to die in the desert. 4 9 Mum's Army (20-Nov-70) BBCV 4490 The platoon gets some female recruits. Mainwaring takes a fancy to one of them, Mrs Gray. When Mainwaring is seen in a cafe with Mrs Gray, rumours begin to spread. 4 10 The Test (27-Nov-70) BBCV 4320 The platoon is challenged to a cricket match by the ARP unit. Mainwaring appoints himself captain. Chief Warden Hodges enlists a professional cricketer, who joins the ARP unit so that he can play in the match. 4 11 A. Wilson (Manager)? (4-Dec-70) BBCV 4763 Wilson is given a commission and becomes manager of the Eastgate branch of the bank, much to Mainwaring's disgust. Pike is promoted to Temporary Chief Clerk and Mainwaring sends a memo to Jones telling him that he's been promoted to sergeant. 4 12 Uninvited Guests (11-Dec-70) BBCV 4764 The wardens' HQ is bombed, so they have to share the church hall with the Home Guard. Captain Mainwaring is very unhappy with the arrangement, so he tries to get the Wardens moved elsewhere. 4 13 Fallen Idol (18-Dec-70) BBCV 4320 The platoon are on a weekend course. Captain Square talks Mainwaring into going for a drink at the Officers' Mess. Mainwaring gets drunk and wakes up next morning with a terrible hangover. In spite of this, he manages to save Jones' life. 4 14 Battle Of The Giants (27-Dec-71) In the pub after church parade, Captain Square ridicules Mainwaring's lack of medals and claims that the Easgate platoon is much better than the Walmington-On-Sea platoon. 5 1 Asleep In The Deep (6-Oct-72) BBCV 4089 A bomb falls on the local pumping station, trapping Walker and Godfrey. The rest of the platoon try to rescue them, but everyone ends up trapped. 5 2 Keep Young And Beautiful (13-Oct-72) BBCV 5372 Parliament decides that older members of the Home guard should be transferred to the ARP, to be replaced by younger members of the ARP. 5 3 A Soldier's Farewell (20-Oct-72) BBCV 4089 The platoon visit the local cinema. After the film, everyone rushes out except Captain Mainwaring, who stands to attention for the National Anthem. At the next parade, Mainwaring punishes the men by making them stand to attention while the National Anthem 5 4 Getting The Bird (27-Oct-72) BBCV 5967 Rumours abound when Sergeant Wilson is seen about town with a young girl on his arm. 5 5 The Desperate Drive Of Corporal Jones (3-Nov-72) BBCV 4764 The platoon take part in an exercise in which they are supposed to defend a deserted barn. Jones and Godfrey misread the map and the men end up in a barn which is intended to be the target for artillery practice. 5 6 If The Cap Fits (10-Nov-72) BBCV 4400 Frazer keeps making unfavourable comments about the way Mainwaring is running the platoon. The Captain gets fed up and offers to swap ranks with Frazer for a couple of days. 5 7 The King Was In His Counting House (17-Nov-72) BBCV 4764 The men are attending a party at Mainwaring's house when there's an air raid. They discover that the bank has taken a direct hit. Mainwaring gets his guests to count the money from the bank. Next day, he takes it to the Eastgate Branch in a horse and cart 5 8 All Is Safely Gathered In (24-Nov-72) BBCV 5442 Captain Mainwaring gets the platoon to help Godfrey's friend, Mrs Prentice, to bring in her harvest. Jones falls into a hopper, everyone drinks too much potato wine and the Vicar's blessing of the harvest is rudely interrupted. 5 9 When Did You Last See Your Money? (1-Dec-72) BBCV 4660 Jones has been collecting money from local tradesmen to help pay for a servicemen's canteen. He raises 500 pounds but, when he comes to deposit it in the bank, the packet he hands over contains sausages instead of cash. Everyone has to rally round to help 5 10 Brains Versus Brawn (8-Dec-72) BBCV 5372 Mainwaring tries to convince the Colonel that "brains are better than brawn". The Colonel challenges him to plant a dummy bomb in the OC's office. Mainwaring and his men borrow a fire engine and disguise themselves as firemen. 5 11 A Brush With The Law (15-Dec-72) BBCV 5372 Someone leaves the church office light on and Hodges spots it. He assumes that Mainwaring must be responsible and decides to prosecute him. 5 12 Round And Round Went The Great Big Wheel (22-Dec-72) BBCV 5932 The boffins from the War Office are testing a secret weapon - a huge catherine wheel packed with explosives and controlled by radio signals. The platoon are roped in as support troops. 5 13 Time On My Hands (29-Dec-72) BBCV 5932 A German pilot bails out over the town and ends up hanging from the clock tower. The men of the platoon go up to the top of the tower to rescue him. Then Jones breaks the ladder that provides the only way down. 6 1 The Deadly Attachment (31-Oct-73) BBCV 4400 The crew of a U-boat are found adrift in a dinghy. They're captured and brought to the church hall, where Mainwaring and his men are given the task of guarding them until an armed escort arrives. 6 2 My British Buddy (7-Nov-73) BBCV 5442 A small group of Americans arrives in Walmington-On-Sea. Mainwaring arranges a darts match to welcome them to England. Unfortunately, a fight breaks out when the Americans start paying to much attention to the local women. 6 3 The Royal Train (14-Nov-73) BBCV 5442 King George VI is due to pass through Walmington-On-Sea on the Royal Train. Mainwaring's platoon is chosen to provide a guard of honour. 6 4 We Know Our Onions (21-Nov-73) BBCV 5932 The members of the platoon have to take part in an initiative test. They travel to the test venue in Jones' van, which is full of onions which Walker has obtained for Hodges. 6 5 The Honourable Man (28-Nov-73) BBCV 4400 Captain Mainwaring is the chairman of a committee set up to decide on a suitable ceremony to welcome a visiting Russian dignitary. Meanwhile, Wilson learns that, as a result of the death of his uncle, he has now become the Honourable Arthur Wilson. 6 6 Things That Go Bump In The Night (5-Dec-73) BBCV 6162 One stormy night, the members of the platoon run out of petrol and have to take shelter in a gloomy old house. Next morning, they discover that it's a training school for tracker dogs. 6 7 The Recruit (12-Dec-73) BBCV 5772 Captain Mainwaring has to go into hospital to have an ingrowing toenail removed. Wilson takes charge of the platoon and allows the vicar and the verger to join the Home Guard. 7 1 Everybody's Trucking (15-Nov-74) BBCV 6162 The Army are planning to hold an exercise near Walmington-On-Sea and Mainwaring's men are given the job of signposting the area. On the way home in Jones' van after completing their task, the platoon find the road blocked by a steam engine. 7 2 A Man of Action (22-Nov-74) BBCV 5572 Jones and Pike are out on patrol. When they pass an iron bar gate, Pike tells Jones how he nearly got stuck in a similar gate when he was a child. 7 3 Gorilla Warfare (29-Nov-74) BBCV 5572 The platoon are taking part in a weekend exercise. They are told to act as commandos, working behind enemy lines, who have to reach a rendezvous point to pick up a secret agent, played by Mainwaring. 7 4 The Godiva Affair (6-Dec-74) BBCV 6266 A parade is planned to raise money for the town's Spitfire Fund. Mainwaring and his men are taking part as morris dancers. Jones thinks that Mrs Fox is getting too friendly with the Town Clerk, so he asks Mainwaring to speak to her on his behalf. 7 5 The Captain's Car (13-Dec-74) The platoon are selected to provide a guard of honour for a visiting French general. When Lady Maltby donates her Rolls Royce to the war effort, Mainwaring decides that it would make an ideal staff car. 7 6 Turkey Dinner (23-Dec-74) BBCV 6583 Jones accidentally shoots a turkey and the owner can't be traced. The platoon decide to use it to give the local pensioners a turkey dinner. Mainwaring turns up to help dressed up for a later engagement. 8 1 Ring Dem Bells (5-Sep-75) BBCV 6583 Mainwaring is delighted when the platoon is asked to take part in a training film. Then he discovers that they are expected to play Nazi troops. Wilson and Pike are chosen to play German officers because the relevant uniforms don't fit anyone else. 8 2 When You've Got To Go (12-Sep-75) BBCV 6583 Pike gets his call up papers and has to go for a medical. His mother expects him to be rejected because he's so 'delicate', but he's passed A1. 8 3 Is There Honey Still For Tea? (19-Sep-75) BBCV 6711 Godfrey's cottage is about to be demolished to make way for a new aerodrome. 8 4 Come In, Your Time Is Up (26-Sep-75) BBCV 6711 The platoon are involved in a weekend camp. Their peace is disturbed when the vicar and the verger turn up with a horde of Sea Scouts and set up camp nearby. Next morning, a rubber dinghy is spotted floating in a nearby lake. 8 5 High Finance (3-Oct-75) BBCV 6711 Mainwaring stops Jones from cashing any more cheques because his bank balance is in the red. It's eventually revealed that Jones hasn't been paid for months by an orphanage which he's been supplying with meet. 8 6 The Face On The Poster (10-Oct-75) A poster featuring Lance-Corporal Jones is planned as part of a recruitment drive to increase the size of the platoon.There's a mixup at the printers and Jones' face ends up on a 'wanted' poster instead. 8 7 My Brother And I (26-Dec-75) Mainwaring's disreputable brother Barry arrives in Walmington to claim back a pocket watch which he claims was left to him by his father. 8 8 The Love Of Three Oranges (26-Dec-76) The vicar organises a bazaar to raise money for the Comforts For The Troops Fund. Mainwaring appoints himself Chairman of a committee to organise the event. Hodges plans to auction three oranges. 9 1 Wake Up Walmington (2-Oct-77) Mainwaring thinks that the population of Walmington are becoming complacent about the threat of invasion, so he orders the platoon to disguise themselves as fifth columnists. 9 2 The Making Of Private Pike (9-Oct-77) BBCV 5643 Mainwaring is issued with a staff car to use while he acts as an umpire in an exercise. Private Pike has arranged a date with Hodge's neice Sylvia, who persuades him to borrow the staff car for a drive to Eastgate. 9 3 Knights Of Madness (16-Oct-77) BBCV 5643 The platoon decide to stage a reenactment of the battle between St George and the Dragon as part of a Wings For Victory fundraising event. Unkown to Mainwaring, Hodges and the Air Raid Wardens have decided to do the same thing. 9 4 The Miser's Hoard (23-Oct-77) BBCV 5643 Mainwaring tries to persuade Frazer to sell his collection of gold coins to buy an annuity. Word spreads around Walmington that Frazer has a hoard of gold, so everyone is looking for a handout. When Fraser is seen heading for the graveyard carrying a box, 9 5 Number Engaged (30-Oct-77) The platoon are given the job of guarding some 'vitally important' telephone wires over the weekend. 9 6 Never Too Old (6-Nov-77) Jones is marrying Mrs Fox. Wilson is best man and Mainwaring gives the bride away. The wedding reception is curtailed after a phone call warning of imminent invasion.
