Facts
- Pleo is a robotic dinosaur modelled after a
week-old baby Camarasaurus. So nothing to do with the real life PLESIOSAUR or
PLIOSAUR then...
- It was designed by the same guy who created
the Furby
- Pleo really does learn from its 'experiences
and environment', although until it's widely available, it's not know how much
relearning will be needed after a software upgrade (via SD or USB)
- Pleo started shipping in the USA at the
start of December 2007
- Pleo runs on 'Life OS' (yeah right) and will
be programmable to some degree
- Sensors include:
- a camera-based vision
system
- two microphones
- stereo hearing
- eight touch sensors (head, chin,
shoulders, back, feet)
- four foot switches (surface
detection, stops it falling off surfaces)
- fourteen force-feedback sensors, one
per joint (and VERY important, as a childish grab for a delicate motorised limb
won't damage the gears or drives)
- a tilt sensor
- an infrared mouth
sensor
- plus infrared for communication with
other Pleos
