Newflash! GUPI Mark III now released in the UK! See the Facts page!

GUPI II being offered its carrotWhat is GUPI?

It's an electronic pet, of course. Previously there had been Tamagotchis, with a great character but only represented in little LCD animations. And robo-this and that - usually puppies, but modelled to look like metallic robots - not at all pet like in terms of having a good cuddle and growing to love the thing.

So your young child is pestering you for the 100th time about having a pet guinea pig or rabbit? And you just know that the novelty will wear off after a few weeks and you'll end up mucking out its hutch for the next six years? GUPI is one solution to this and seems to be working so far with my six year old daughter. It's not a real pet, of course, but it's way closer than all previous attempts.

GUPI doesn't need any programming, any controlling (other than waving the carrot at it) or special treatment. And, just as importantly, it's cute and cuddly, with very realistic appearance and fur, so you can pick it up and cuddle it as you would a real guinea pig.

In these pages are Facts about GUPI and what it can do, including the differences between the early GUPI I and the newer and better GUPI II and III, FAQ/Tips on how to get the most from it, pointers to Where to buy one, a Discussion group for you to contribute your own thoughts and comments, a guide to Dismantling GUPI, a Gallery of videos and images of GUPI, and Links to any other relevant GUPI sites that might spring up.
