Test disc

The majority of DVD players will read standard DVD-R discs, but there are a minority that won't. If you're not sure which camp your equipment lies in, you might like to avail yourself of our test disc.

Essentially, this is a DVD-R with copyright free footage converted from VHS at different bit rates. You'll be able to make sure your DVD player handles the format, including the dye type used in our DVD-R media, as well as verify the quality of our VHS conversion service and which bit rate/disc capacity to plump for.

Note that the cost of the DVD-R media, protective packaging and postage means that we have to make a small inclusive charge (£6) for the test disc, but rest assured that when you place your order for your own VHS conversion onto DVD, you can send the test disc back and we'll take the £6 off your final bill.

If you find that the test disc doesn't play in your set-top player, it may simply be that your player doesn't like a specific media/dye type. We have (at least) two here to try, so if necessary return the original test disc and ask for the 'other' type (one has a silverish bottom, the other is blue).

To order a test disc, please get in touch, enclosing a cheque for £6 made payable to Steve Litchfield. (If you wish, tell us which colour disc dye you think might work best.)

In the unlikely case that your DVD player can't handle DVD-R media of any type then we suggest you hang onto the disc in any case, in order to be able to test future players that you might acquire. Please note that it's not practical to refund your £6!
