Review: Metroid Prime Pinball (DS)

Score: 85

Metroid Prime Pinball

This is a superb game that manages to merge sci-fi with a great pinball simulation. Nintendo's Samus character from previous games gets morphed into a ball and generally knocked around a variety of pinball environments.

Pinball

Demonstrating the quality of the programming, the physics of Metroid Prime Pinball are first class, especially when combined with the optional DS rumble pack, which gives you mechanical vibration feedback. Very cool and surprisingly realistic, despite the artificial 'gap' between the two screens, which you soon learn to tune out from.

As with all good games, you choose from a couple of starting tables and then gradually unlock your way into new ones. The visuals in each game are nicely themed after previous Metroid games and are very nicely drawn, with bad guys that you occasionally have to pound with the main pinball.

Screen shot

The only negative point I can make is that the 'bump'/tilt mechanism, which involves dragging your finger across the touch-screen, isn't intuitive.

Very cool, very slick and perfect for quick gaming blasts.
